A Love Letter to Mom

A Love Letter to Mom - Chopin Berceuse

Ever since I was a little kid, my mom has always been my rock. With boundless faith and great imagination, together, we dreamed up the future, from living in a tiny apartment in Taipei to traveling the world as a concert pianist.

When I told Mom that I wanted to become a world class pianist at the age of 10, she supported me whole heartedly. Without knowing what challenges were in store for the future and how to get to where I wanted to be, she would have given me every ounce of her will and power to support my dreams.

When my sister and I were teenagers, at 14 and 16, we found ourselves living 8,000 miles away from Mom, navigating a new country and a new language; traveling from Philadelphia to NYC every Saturday by myself to attend the Juilliard Pre-College on the Greyhound bus. It was tough, but Mom was always with me in spirit.

Mom travelled with me to my first concert abroad in Japan, my European debut, followed by countless competitions and performances. However she could make it, she would be there for me. Her unwavering belief in me fueled my confidence, even when future looked uncertain.

Back then, international calls were expensive, and video calls were a futuristic imagination. We relied on scratchy phone calls and handwritten letters sent by fax.

Despite the distance, Mom's love knew no bounds. She was always just a phone call away, any time of the day, offering words of encouragement and reminding me to chase my dreams. She taught me the value of resilience and the power of believing in myself.

Now, as an adult, I’ve achieved my childhood dream and became a world traveling pianist. Mom has grown old, but just as beautiful as ever, only now I am her rock.

Set to Chopin's Berceuse, this video is a love letter to Mom, a reminder of the unwavering bond we share. It captures the precious memories from our ordinary days together. To all the amazing women who nurture and love, Happy Mother's Day! ♥️
